Coega Development Corporation reaches agreement with former CEO in labour dispute
A labour dispute that followed the firing of former Coega Development Corporation (CDC) CEO Khwezi Tiya in December last year has now been resolved.
The parties to the labour dispute have reached a mutual separation agreement, with the CDC stating on September 15 that this was in the interests of both parties and that it would bring to an end the uncertainty surrounding the matter.
“The CDC wishes . . . Tiya all the very best in whatever future endeavours he may elect to embark upon,” the CDC said.
Tiya thanked the CDC for the “invaluable experience” obtained during his tenure as CEO.
In January, Engineering News reported that, following a thorough internal review and disciplinary process, the CDC had decided to dismiss the suspended Tiya effective December 19, 2024.
The CDC said Tiya had been dismissed after 15 months of suspension in accordance with its policies, which commit the organisation to maintain high standards of governance and operational integrity.
The precise reason for Tiya’s suspension and later dismissal was never revealed.
“The conclusion of the disciplinary process will allow for a renewed focus on CDC’s strategic objectives and stakeholder engagements. CDC values transparency, integrity and accountability,” the organisation said at the time.
Tiya contested the suspension and subsequent dismissal decision, maintaining that he had done nothing wrong and that he had been treated incorrectly by the CDC.
